Arthur Truman Pierce

Arthur was born on January 31, 1914 to Arthur Leon and Mary Kuykendall Pierce at Binghamton, New York. He passed away on October 28, 2012 due to natural causes. Art had many memorable childhood experiences as he grew up in south central New York. He worked at Johnson-Endcott Shoe Factory and married Sylvia Anne Grecoi. In 1943, Art divorced Sylvia and enlisted in the US Army Air Force and served as a bomber mechanic at Hamilton Base in California. While stationed at Gowen Field in Boise, he met Selma Fay Mannen and they were married May 3, 1947. Art moved to Caldwell, where he was a mechanic and parts man for Service Parts. In 1958 he started Pierce Photo Studio and took photographs of weddings and ran the photo finish camera at horse races though out Idaho. He retired in 1977. Art and Selma bought a home on Hoskin’s Lane where he enjoyed his hobbies; fishing, rock-hounding, gardening, playing the organ, pitching horseshoe’s and wood working. He enjoyed making wooden toys for his grand kids. He honed his wood skills to a point where he developed a special process in making wooden bowls and vases. Selma and Art traveled to every state in the Union and played card games and Scrabble almost daily. Art liked playing pinochle at the Nampa and Caldwell Senior Center for many years. Art is survived by a sister, Marion Decker of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter, Patricia (Ed) Torrey of Wilder, and a son, Arthur Michael (Lillian) of Nampa. He has 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma of 53 years of marriage; two brothers, Owen and Clyde; and two sons, Daniel and Lewis. A memorial graveside service will be held Monday, November 5, 2012, 2:00 PM, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
