Mr. Arthur E. Ulman, 90, of Clinton Road, Canajoharie, NY died peacefully on September 22, 2014 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY. Born in Bridgeport, CT on December 31, 1923 he was the only son of the late Stephen and Gertrude Dobbelaar Ulman. Arthur lived most of his life in Stratford. He attended local schools and was the Vice President of CityTrust Bank until his retirement. He was a member of the Stratford Republican Town Committee and served as Chairman of the Southbury Connecticut Republican Committee. He was also a member of the Southbury Lions Club and was an honorary sheriff of Fairfield County. He was a devout Catholic Christian and an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. In 2005, in order to be closer to his family, he relocated to Canajoharie, NYwith his wife of 65 years, Dorothy E. Ulman who predeceased him on September 10, 2010. Survivors include his children; Arthur E. Ulman and his wife Kathleen of Canajoharie, NY; Mary Bishop of Shelton, CT and Anne Ulman (John Allen) of Wolfboro, NH; one brother in law, George J. Dirgo of Shelton, CT; five grandchildren, Kara Mastin and her husband Ronald, A. Edward Ulman, Jeffrey Bishop and his wife Marissa, Zach Murray and Adelaide Murray; five great grandchildren, Kimberly Ulman, Heather Ulman, Stephen Ulman, Kayla Mastin and Ryan Mastin; and several nieces and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 11 o'clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Murphy as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with the family, one hour prior to the Mass beginning at 10 o'clock at the church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery, Canajoharie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America 103 Patroon Dr., Guilderland, NY 12084 or Our Lady of Hope Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
