Arthur M. Whitman
June 27th, 1926 - September 14th, 2006
Mr. Arthur M. Whitman Jr., age 80 of Gloversville, died Thursday evening, September 14, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He was born on June 27, 1926 in Gloversville, the son of the late Arthur Sr. and Lena Scott Whitman. He served his country in the Army during WWII, and later became employed at Johnstown Leather Corporation. He retired as a leather color specialist after many years of service. Mr. Whitman was a member of the Johnstown Eagles Aerie, and was a lifetime member of the Gloversville VFW Post #2007. He loved wood-working, and enjoyed roaming the Adirondack Mountains. He was married on July 4, 1948 to Florence I. Boyd Whitman who died November 5, 1999. He is survived by two children, Anna M. Jump David of Fairview, TN and Don W. Whitman Jr. Julie of Anthem, AZ; a sister, Ruth Vollero of Raleigh, NC; two daughters-in-law, Barbara and Diane Whitman; seven grandchildren, Tim Joyce Jr; Jodie Joyce, David Whitman, Arthur Whitman IV, Jeanne Whitman, Danny Whitman and Carol J. Silveira; 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three children, Arthur M. Whitman III, Donald W. Whitman Sr. and Gloria Whitman; also by his brother, Alfred Whitman; and by two sisters, Rhoda Stoller and Rosella Stuart. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday with the Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211
