In Loving Memory of Artie “Frances” Van Horn
Artie “Frances” Van Horn, age 94 years-old of Salinas, California passed away at home, on Monday May 6th, 2024, with her family by her side.
She was born on September 3rd, 1929 in Williams, Oklahoma to the late Ruphus Johns and Birdie (Hanna) Johns, later moving to Buttonwillow, California in 1937. She married the late Charles Van Horn on February 11th, 1946, spending 45 years, 9 months and 16 days together on this earth. They built their home and life together from scratch, raising 4 children in a loving Christian home.
Frances was Baptized in June 1948, Freewill Baptist in Arvin, California. She faithfully followed the lord each day as an example to her family and all she met. Francis and her husband Charles founded the Salinas Freewill Baptist Church on August 28, 1949.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Ruphus Johns; her mother, Birdie (Hanna) Johns; her husband, Charles Van Horn; her brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Edward “Butch” and Alma Johns; brother and sister-in-law, Elza and Marie Johns; sister, Kate (French) Chica; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Frances Van Horn; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Robert (Bob) Hopper and son-in-law, Trevor Cooper.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianna Cooper; daughter Donna Van Horn; 10 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 40 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandson.
Visitation: 10:00am to 11:00am (family only)
Pay respect: 11:00am to 1:00pm (all)
Service: Monday, May 13th, 2024 1:00pm – 2:30pm (all)

He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
