Artur R. Granat
November 18th, 1962 - June 12th, 2019
Obituary Artur R Granat November 18, 1962 - June 12, 2019 Artur Granat entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family and Heavenly Father in the early morning of June 12th. Beloved son of Stanislawa Wolak Granat and Kazimierz Granat, Artur was born in the coastal town of Swinoujscie in Poland. He spent 19 years living in Swinoujscie where he started his studies in a Maritime Academy and found his passion for the martial art of Kyokushin, and the ocean, with his best friend Mariusz. Artur’s love for the sea started at a very young age. He was happiest when he was surrounded by water. He would take any opportunity to either walk by the beach or be in the ocean. Artur emigrated to South Africa when he was 19 to escape communism. He started a family at a young age and had his first son Artur, who he longed to always be with. He lived in Johannesburg for a number of years, however his love for the ocean brought him to Cape Town where he continued his education and worked as a Port Engineer. Unforeseen circumstances drove him to move to the United States when he was 28 years old. There he continued his work in the Maritime Industry in the Bay Area where he established an outstanding reputation. He met his now beloved wife Adriana at the age of 33 and started a family. They had two beautiful children, Nicole and Joshua. Artur loved his family with all his heart and would do everything he could to provide the best life for them. Family was the core of his existence. He enjoyed spending time at home; especially the Carmel Highlands home where he could see the ocean from every window. He found joy in gardening, working on building projects and listening to his favorite radio host in his garage, which was known to be his sanctuary. One of his favorite places was Carmel Beach, where the ocean breeze and rolling fog invigorated his spirit and gave him a zest for life. This longing to be by the water led him to move his family to Carmel in 2000 where he hoped to share his passion for the ocean with his children. Artur teamed up with Adriana to start a family Jewelry business (European Jeweler) in Carmel and Monterey. Their dream was to create a business where his clients would feel comfortable, appreciated and loved. Artur was a man who never forgot those he met and left an imprint on their hearts. People who knew him were positively affected by his gregarious spirit, infectious laughter and sense of humor. As a dear friend so eloquently stated, “he has touched many hearts, not only through his strength, his strong spiritual convictions, his perseverance, his deepest love for Adriana and his family, but also through his love for his friends. He truly was a remarkable man with an infectious smile, witty and brilliant mind, compassion for others, honorable beliefs and integrity. He will forever be remembered.” Artur was living his dream life. Artur is survived by his wife Adriana, his children Artur (Lydie), Nicole, Joshua; mother Stanislawa, sister Lucyna (Christopher), niece Adriana (Ryan and Max) and nephew Christopher; mother-in-law Halina, father in law Josef (Barbara), and brother-in-law Michael (Dana). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carmel Mission Basilica, 3080 Rio Rd., Carmel-by-the-Sea. Reception to follow at the Crespi Hall. Please wear black and white to the service (Artur’s favorite color combination). In lieu of flowers, family requests donations made to Prostate Cancer Foundation cure.pcf.org in honor of his hard-fought battle. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Artur R.
