Audrey Elizabeth Stricker

Audrey Elizabeth Stricker, daughter of Leo H. Fischer and Rona Otto Fischer, was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on March 29, 1929. A 1947 graduate of Central High School, Sheboygan, WI, she is also a 1950 graduate of Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Milwaukee, WI. She married Werner Stricker in Dubuque, Iowa, on July 22, 1950. They had one son, Thomas Frederick Stricker. Always interested in music, especially singing, she sang with local dance bands in her teen years and directed both children's and adults choirs over a fifty year period, for military chapel and civilian churches, depending on where her Air Force husband's career moved them. She studied singing at Wisconsin Conservatory in Madison, WI; MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, MN, Weber College in Ogden, UT as well as with as with numerous private teachers. A registered nurse, her career path was at her husband's side as he pursued a college education, gradation from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, WI in 1955. Her husbands career took them to a dozen states, and they spent a five-year tour in England, during which they were able to visit much of Europe. Audrey was formally employed by Marysville Joint Unified School District in ROP program. Audrey is a member of her nursing school's alumni association; National Health Federation; Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation, and a Lifetime member of Canadian Protestant League; She was also a member of Butchie's Pool, Community Memorial Museum, and Yuba Sutter Regional Arts Council. She and her husband are founding members of Yuba City First Reformed Church and are former members of California Camel Clompers (a local walking club). Interested in writing from an early age, she wrote, edited and published newsletters over a twenty-five year period. Since July, 1991 her column, "Viewpoint" has appeared regularly in the Territorial Dispatch. Known by many for her big heart, shining smile, unique wit punctuated by her laughter and hugs. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched and encouraged where ever she went. Survivors include her husband, Werner; son, Thomas, daughter in-law; Joyce, sister, Marilyn of Chicago, IL; grandson Adam Stricker; granddaughter Holly Stricker; great-granddaughter Bailey A. Stricker and great-grandson Adam J. Stricker. Memorial contributions may be made to Butchie's Pool or First Reformed Church.
