Austin George Davidso
July 19th, 1927 - February 9th, 2017
Austin Alexander George Davidson was born on July, 19, 1927 in Elliot St. Mary, Jamaica to the late Arthur Morgan and the late Daisy Davidson-Johnson. His direction to Christ began at an early age. Austin grew up in the Parish of St. Mary and attended school in that Parish. He accepted Christ in 1948 and worshipped with the Brethren Assembly in Gayle, St. Mary. In 1958, he encountered the Church of God in Jamaica, and began to worship there, serving as Youth Leader, Deacon and Lay Minister. Austin met the love of his life, the late Mary Jane (Woolley) Davidson in Port Maria, Jamaica and they were married on December 10, 1958 until his beloved wife passed away on June 5, 2015. God blessed them with four lovely children… Genevieve, Michael, Dale and Faith. Austin took courses in Social Work and Public Administration at the University of the West Indies Mona Jamaica and the College of Swansea in Wales, London, England. Upon migrating to the United States, Austin continued his Christian Fellowship by becoming a member of the Far Rockaway Church of God under the leadership of Pastor James E. Cray. He acknowledged his call to the Ministry in 1974 while serving in the church as youth leader and Chairman of the Evangelism Committee. His consciousness to pursue more academic knowledge was raised. At this time, he took Business courses at Queensborough Community College. He worked for several years as a bookkeeper for Hammels-Arverne Day Care Center. He also served as Chairman of the Board for Sheldon R. Weaver Day Care Center. Rev. Davidson was ordained in October 1978 under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Arthur W. Davenport. In January of 1979, he was called and elected to serve as Pastor of Faith Mission Church of God in Brooklyn, NY. Pastor Davidson instituted several programs aimed at reaching the community for Christ while serving at Faith Mission Church of God: a soup kitchen, a Summer Day Camp and an After-School Program. He also served as Vice President of the Eastern New York General Assembly and Chair of the Urban Ministry. Pastor Davidson served Faith Mission Church of God and the General Assembly diligently until he and his wife, Rev. Mary Davidson, relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida. Remaining faithful to his dedication to the Church of God, Rev. Davidson joined the Community Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Cecil Wiltshire. Rev. Davidson continued to serve using his professional and spiritual training to serve God at his new found place of worship. He taught Sunday School, helped with accounting, and preached the word of God. He went back to school and earned a BS in Theololgy from Warner Southern College in 2004. Rev. Davidson absolutely loved the word of God, loved the church and loved to fellowship with the people of God. Trusted by many, Rev. Davidson consistently emanated the light of the Lord through his word, his service and his life. Everyone who met him loved his genuine charismatic spirit, his integrity and his steadfast tenacity in everything. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his loving children: Genevieve Henry, Michael Davidson, Dale Davidson & Faith Webster (Niles), his grandchildren: Ryan Henry, Dale Anthony Davidson, Nicole Davidson, Christine Webster & Angelica Webster, his great-grandchildren: Zane Marchan & Gianna Marie Davidson, his sisters Maizle, Ruby (deceased), Daphney Johnson, Doris, Susan, Daphney Morgan, his brothers Owen Johnson, Ranford, & Norris(deceased), Michael, Owen Morgan and many other relatives, church family and friends.
