Averill Allen Powell
October 4th, 1982 - July 5th, 2021
Averill Allen Powell, born in Saint Paul, MN on October 4th, 1982, passed away on Monday, July 5th, 2021, at the age of 38. Averill excelled at everything he did. He had a way of making people laugh and drew people in by his charisma. Averill loved God. He was a skilled craftsmen whom worked on houses and in construction. In addition, Averill worked as an Iron Worker and was very proud of being involved in the reconstruction of the Stillwater Lift Bridge in Stillwater, MN. Averill had a passion for the outdoors, loved to swim, camp, and even more to fish. Averill, in his earlier years, also boxed at the Rice Street Gym, loved the athletics of football and basketball, and won trophies in soccer growing up. At a young age, Averill grew a great appreciation for his heritage and found comfort in listening to Native drum beats. Averill was a proud father and loved his children very much. Averill is preceded into death by his grandmother, Mae Jacquelyn Powell & grandfather Fred Allen Ampey. Averill is survived by his parents, mother, Suzanne Tierre Powell (Tinner) and father, Paul Frederick Ampey; siblings, Brittany Racquel Powell and Madia Paulette Ampey; brothers- Julian Paul “JP” Ampey, Zade Allen Ampey, and stepbrother, Zachary Blum; children Lily Mae Powell (Jen Thoren) and Makaio Grey Powell (Meghan Rodriguez), a host of aunts & uncles including Crystal and Antoine Berryman, multiple cousins including Justin Powell, Nicole Berryman (godmother), Craig Lewis, & many more extended family; in addition many close friends, Shawn Greene. Averill’s Celebration of Life is Saturday, July 31st at St. Peter Claver 375 Oxford St N, St. Paul, MN 55104. Visitation at 11 am, Service to follow 12 pm - 1 pm and a reception hosted by the family at 1pm. Spielman Mortuary has been helping Saint Paul families since 1950 when Kenneth and Helen Spielman purchased the National Funeral Home. For over 30 years, the couple lived above the funeral home and took just one vacation. They sold the home in 1984 to the Willwerscheid family. We still operate Spielman Mortuary with the same traditions of pride, sensitivity, value, and attention to detail that the Spielmans followed for over three decades....
