Ayde Alvarez Cortina, 77, of Caldwell, ID, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from complications of Covid-19, she was surrounded by her family at time of death. She was born on March 12, 1943 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, daughter of late Luis and Guadalupe Alvarez. She was the eldest of 4 sisters and one brother. Ayde went to school in Donna, Texas and received certificates in Business Management and Gregg shorthand. On April 7, 1969, she married Rito Gonzalez Cortina in Pharr, Texas. Rito and Ayde began their lives together in Mission Texas. They migrated to and from Idaho until 1981 where they would eventually settle in Caldwell, Idaho. In 1973 Ayde began working at the Caldwell Housing Authority as a part time employee. She would eventually become an institution in her own right as she held every position from secretary, to accountant, to office manager in her illustrious 35 year career. Ayde had a passion for roses. Her flower display was an attraction for the entire Hispanic community as she was known as the lady of the roses. Ayde was a servant of God, she helped people from all walks of life. She helped anyone in need without any type of discrimination. Her kindness and generosity of service to her community is her legacy. Her work impacted more than just one family or one person but hundreds of people. She believed that small and large acts of good will were blessings that would build a better world for everyone She is survived by her husband Rito Cortina, her daughter Edelia (Isaias) Ibarra, her son Luis Ruben Cortina, her two sisters Isabel A. Paz and Connie Alvarez, her brother Felix Alvarez, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Guadalupe Alvarez, her sister Francisca A. Lopez, her aunts Felipa Marroquin, and Ramona Lopez, and her uncle Felipe Lopez. To be witness to the lessons of gratitude and service are profound. Our lives and many more are forever changed because she had compassion and a calling to help others in their time of need.
