Barbara Leone (Anderson) Davisson was born July 8th, 1942 in Mason City, Iowa to Earnest and Elsie (Statzer) Anderson. She passed peacefully in the morning on May 18th, 2024 under Hospice care at Matthews Health and Rehab. She was 81 years old. Barbara was a 1960 graduate of Mason City High School, and she worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where she met her late husband, John. There she was tasked with starting a library which she was very proud of. She was married at First Christian Church in Mason City, Iowa on November 4th, 1962. She was a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina for 52 years where she raised her family, yet still an “Iowa child.” She worked as a preschool teacher for seventeen years at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church. She was a past member of First Christian Church on East Boulevard and a current member of Southpark Christian Church in Charlotte. Barbara was very active in the church and taught Sunday school. She adored children and absolutely loved her family and friends. She is survived by her three daughters, Julie (Ron) Hatch, Shari Ashley (Shane Mitchell), Debbie Howard (Brandon Faulkner); and her grandchildren, who meant the world to her, Zachary Howard, Colten Hatch, Lexi Howard, Brianna Hatch, and Cheyenne Mitchell. She enjoyed reading to them, teaching, making cookies, playing cards and games, and she knew how to be silly. She was extremely fond of music, dancing, and ice skating. She loved vanilla ice cream and candy corn, and Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved to go to the mountains and enjoyed gardening. She had a very compassionate heart and was generous and kind to all living things. She was a wonderful Mother and Grammy and will truly be missed by all that knew her. She is also survived by her brother, Ken Anderson (Ruth) and her sister, Norma Farrell (the late Jerome Farrell), her sister-in-law, Joni (the late Roger) Davisson and sister-in-law Marcia (Howard) Taylor. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John Quinn Davisson, her parents, her sister, Doris Coleman, her brothers, Donald “Bub,” Harold, Dan, and Jim Anderson, among other close family members. A service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on June 6th, 2024 at 7 PM at Southpark Christian Church, 6650 Park S Dr, Charlotte, NC 28210. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to Barbara’s favorite charities, March of Dimes (donate here) and Hospice of Iowa and Charlotte (donate here), or to Southpark Christian Church (donate here).
