Barbara Iannaccone Barbara Ann Leutz-Iannaccone Cocoa Beach, FL Barbara Iannaccone (nee Leutz) 65, of Cocoa Beach Florida, and formerly of St. James and Brooklyn, New York; passed away peacefully on Friday April 18, 2014 surrounded by friends and family. Barbara is survived by her two sons; Michael of Tampa, FL and Chris of Denver, CO. Barbara was predeceased by her parents George and Helen Leutz, and her brothers James E. Leutz and George E. Leutz III. Barbara grew up on E. 51st Street in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Mary Queen of Heaven Grammar School in 1962 and St. Brendan's High School in 1966 where she earned the Perfect Attendance Award, and was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduation from St Brendan's with a commercial degree, Barbara entered the workforce as an Executive Assistant to the EVP of Sales at Bank of America on Broad Street in New York City. In 1968 Barbara enrolled in St. Francis College's night program, becoming one of the first women to attend the previously all-male school. She worked for a number of Wall Street Brokerage firms until she accepted a position with IBM World Trade Division Communications Group in 1970. In March 1970, Barbara married Lou Iannaccone. They had their first son Chris in 1972 and Barbara left the workforce to become a full-time mom. In 1976 the family moved to Carle Place, NY and Chris started school. Barbara returned to the workforce and took a job working for her Uncle Bob Iannaccone at Altair Machinery Corporation in New York City. She was a bookkeeper, and helped bring an automated computer accounting system to the company. In 1978, Barbara decided to take a 1 month Outward Bound Desert Course in Moab, Utah. During that time she climbed a mountain called Six Shooter, and spent three days on a desert solo vision quest among the ruins of an Anasazi Indian Cliff Village. In 1982, the family moved to St. James, NY; Michael was born, and Barbara once again became a full-time mom. In 1984, she realized her ""purpose"" and enrolled in SUNY Farmingdale's Registered Nursing Program graduating in two years. She took her RN state board right after graduation and passed becoming an RN at 38 years old, one of the oldest graduates that year. Her first nursing job was as a Psych Nurse at the Central Islip State Hospital. About a year later, she moved into Geriatric Nursing at St. James Plaza assisted living facility. She landed her ""dream job"" at Petite Fleur in Sayville, NY and worked there for the next 10 years in various capacities. Barbara and Lou separated in 1998 and after living in Patchogue, NY for two years she decide to move to Cocoa Beach, FL. She found a great condo overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, set up home and started working in a number of assisted living facilities in the vicinity where she worked as an Assistant Director of Nursing and a weekend Supervisor. Barbara was last employed at Courtney Springs Village. Barbara was a loving mother and wife, and a good friend who enjoyed a good cigar once in a while, and a hearty laugh all the time... . A true ""what-you-see"" Brooklyn girl with a big heart and infectious smile that will be missed by all... ... The world is a less interesting place without her in it... .. All our love Babs... .. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, April 25, 2014 at Beckman Williamson Funeral Home, Viera FL. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 till 6PM on Thursday, April 24, 2014.
