Barbara Jean Quackenbush

Ms. Barbara Jean Quackenbush, 83, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2020 at her home in Amsterdam, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 27, 1936 in Gloversville to Carlton and Emily (Mezza) Clute. She attended local schools, and was a graduate of the Nathan Littauer Nursing Diploma School, class of 1957. Barbara worked as a registered nurse for 57 years. She worked in many different fields of nursing, before rounding out her career at the Montgomery County Infirmary where she worked for 27 years, retiring as a 3-11 supervisor in 2007. A woman of great faith and community, Barbara was a devoted member of the Perth Bible Church. Through the years, she volunteered at the Perth Bible Church Summer Camp and Sacandaga Bible Conference Camp. She was also involved in the New Mother's Ministry within her Church. In her spare time, Barbara was an avid reader. She also helped to raise her grandchildren. Barbara is survived by her daughters Laurie Canizzaro and Amy Quackenbush; her grandchildren, Brandon Canizzaro and Ronay Pagan; her siblings, Carol Allen, Nancy Demagistris, Larry Stewart, Susan Burlett, Patty Clute, Albert Clute, Richard Clute, and James Clute; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Emily; her step-mother, Marilyn Clute; her daughter Rona Quackenbush; and by her siblings Richard C. and Martin Clute. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Barbara’s Life at the Perth Bible Church, 1863 County Highway 107, Amsterdam, NY 12010 on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon with Pastor Mark Appell officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the Church Hall. Due to Covid-19, all attendees are required to wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines. Interment services will be held privately for the family at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Route 29, Johnstown, New York, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved daughter.
