Barbara Ann Rigby, 80, of Boise, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on January 17, 2017, surrounded by family. Barbara was born in Provo, UT on June 4, 1936 to loving parents Ronald and Norma Snelson. It was during primary school in Provo that Barbara developed a love of dance and drama. Following her father’s death in 1947, the family moved to Salt Lake City, UT (1950), where she attended high school. It was during this difficult time that Barbara credits her mother Norma for teaching her to have “courage in adversity”, as well as facilitating her love and admiration for nature, music, and her heritage. Barbara married her high school sweetheart and eternal companion, Hugh Carr Rigby, in Salt Lake City, June 16, 1955, shortly after high school. She adored Hugh throughout her life. In her own words, “Hugh is my staff and my stay. He has my heart.” Hugh and Barbara worked and lived in Salt Lake City for several years before moving to Ontario, OR and finally settling in Boise, ID. Barbara took “immense joy” in rearing her seven children. They were her “life’s work and her biggest reward”. Barbara taught and served in many capacities as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the people that she worked and served with. They taught her to be a better mother and person. Barbara loved her parents, and her siblings, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a passion for history, and loved to study other cultures and far-away places. She enjoyed baking, quilting, and painting. Most of all, Barbara took great pleasure in serving and giving to others. We love and miss her. We take comfort in the next part of her journey, knowing she is with her Hugh. Barbara is survived by her two sisters; Bette Whiting (David) and Marilyn Hales (Jan), her seven children; Mark (Chris), Steven, Pamela Berry (Eldon), Christine Warren (Roy), Curtis (Shawna), Kevin (Pauline), and Matthew, twenty grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Norma, and her brother Dean. Viewings are scheduled for Friday, January 27, 2017 from 6-8pm and Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 9:30-10:30am at the Boise Idaho North Stake Building, 8620 Goddard Road, Boise, ID. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Boise Idaho North Stake Building, 8620 Goddard Road, Boise, ID, followed by graveside service at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4255 E Fairview Ave, Meridian, ID 83642.
