She was preceded in death by her parents Oliver “OE” Brown and Peggy Wiley; and a brother, Ronnie Brown. Barbara leaves behind her step mother, Emma Brown of Meadville, PA; her partner of 35 years, Butch Gibson, of Gulfport, FL; two special adopted daughters, Heidi Gibson of Gulfport, FL, and Deanna Flanagan and husband, Mark, of Simpsonville, SC; adopted granddaughters, Ariana and Maura Flanagan; a brother, Bobby Brown, half-brother, Floyd Wolford, and wife, Peggy; son, Wally Bragg; two granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter, all of Cleveland, OH; and a special cousin, Terri Dichtl, of Strongsville, OH; and many special friends. Barbara lived in Norfolk, VA for many years where she earned her Associates Degree in Medical Assistance from Commonwealth College. She retired as a hair-dresser and never left the house until she looked perfect. Upon retirement, she and Butch moved to Gulfport, FL, where she lived out her life. Over the years she touched many lives, volunteering in the soup kitchen at Central Baptist Church, Norfolk. She had a very soft heart when it came to people who had no family support. She would adopt them and assist them in whatever way she could, and once having made a special trip to New Orleans to bring a dear friend back to Virginia. Barbara had a great love for animals, having many over the years, adopting countless dogs, cats, and ferrets, and there was always a funny story she’d share whenever you spoke of one of them. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Scrappy. As per her wishes a private ceremony will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations in her name to your favorite animal shelter, clinic, or foster center.
