Barkley ReedA graveside inurnment service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. May 29 at Creswell Pioneer Cemetery for Barkley George “Buddy” Reed of Oregon City, formerly of Cottage Grove and Creswell, who died May 12 of heart failure. He was 58.A memorial gathering will follow at 3 p.m. May 29 at the Creswell VFW Post No. 4039.Reed was born Nov. 26, 1951, in Hempstead, N.Y., to George and Peggy Holbrook Reed. He married Mary Jo Gwyther on Sept. 1, 1978, in Las Vegas.Reed held a bachelor’s degree from George Fox University. He served in the Navy from November 1971 to December 1994, receiving many medals, honors, ribbons and awards. He worked as a disabled veterans’ employment specialist at the state Employment Department in Oregon City.Survivors include his wife; his mother; and three sisters, Linda Bender of Orangevale, Calif., and Velma Bails and Renelda “Nella” Danielson, both of Springfield.Arrangements by England’s Creswell Memorial Chapel. Remembrances to the Lane County Food Bank, Fill a Stocking, Fill a Heart organization in Oregon City or the Humane Society of Oregon.
