Barrie Wiggins, 63, of Charlotte, NC died March 29, 2015 at Sardis Oaks. The courage with which she approached her illness, along with her unwavering faith, were an inspiration to all and will always be admired. Barrie was born in Charlotte on February 5, 1952 to the late John Darwin Little and Bette Crockford Little. A native Charlottean, she attended Harding High School, graduating in 1970. Shortly thereafter, Barrie moved to Fayetteville North Carolina where she went to work as a legal assistant for Gardner Altman, a mentor that she valued highly throughout her legal career. Her work there provided the inspiration for Barrie to return to college where she earned her Accounting degree from UNC Charlotte and went on for her Juris Doctorate from UNC Chapel Hill. Upon graduating from law school, she pursued a brief career in public accounting and then joined Stuart McKaig's law firm in private practice. After the birth of her second child, Barrie pursued her career from home so that she could devote more time to her children. She remained in practice until the end of 2014 and was a member of various legal and accounting professional organizations. Barrie's clients valued her professionalism, expertise and attention to detail. But the one thing that was most important was the personal touch with which she approached her work. Many clients became like family to Barrie. While work and family took much of Barrie's time, she loved spending time at the beach and traveling in general. Work and family were her passion, but she did take up several hobbies along the way, knitting scarves, as an example, for every family member as a Christmas gift. She was also actively involved in numerous charities and not-for-profits focused on improving lives for disabled children and adults. Barrie also started her own blog, appropriately named "God's Got It", after she was diagnosed with brain cancer. There she wrote much about her faith, including her favorite Bible verses, and shared many favorite memories of her past. It was a place where Barrie could share her own personal journey, but provide comfort and inspiration to others who were so concerned about her. She also cherished her Community Bible Study group, led by Susan Mayfield and Linda Loberg. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. "Buck" Wiggins; and her children, Brandon Michael Wiggins and Brittany Michelle Wiggins; a brother Ralph Alexander "Alec" Little and his wife Pam; a nephew Kyle Little and his wife Golda; a niece Melanie Katharine Day; cousins Donna Lewis and Robin Burton; stepmother Jean Little; and stepsister Terri Tucker. In addition to her parents, Barrie was preceded in death by a son, John David Council. A service to celebrate Barrie's life will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC. Interment is private. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, April 1, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte,, NC 28203. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Phillips Academy, 3115 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211 or In Reach, 4425 Randolph Rd., Charlotte, NC 28211.
