Barry T. Marsh

Barry "Poppy" T. Marsh, 81, of Englewood passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Englewood Community Hospital. Born on May 21, 1938 in Yorkshire, England to the late Wilfred and Gertrude Primrose Marsh; he served sixteen years in the Royal Navy on the HMS Victorious. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1965 on the USS United States. Barry graduated from Bridgeport Engineering Institute with his Master's Degree 1975. A vice president and general manager of Helicoid Division of American Chain and Cable; he moved to Florida coming from Trumbull, Connecticut, he lived here for thirty-one years. He became a licensed real estate broker and established Myakka Realty in Englewood. Barry stopped working in 2014 when he closed the office. A man of integrity whose word was his bond, and a "straight shooter" Barry was well thought of by his peers and the people he helped in his long and sometimes difficult career. When the chips were down and his family needed him, Barry stepped up and raised his three young grandchildren Emily, Brittney and Cody Marsh. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Linda Marsh in 2008 and two sons, Barry, Jr. in 2000 and Paul in 2008, a sister, Sylvia Holgate in 2019. He is survived by his loving daughters: Diana Petreycik of North Port, Florida and Carol Zahornasky of Shelton, Connecticut; loving companion: Dottie Johnson of Port Charlotte, Florida; two sisters: Barbara Winspear of Billingham, England and Noreen Bradley of Halifax, England; nine grandchildren: Emily, Britney, Cody Marsh; Kyle and Adam Petreycik; Ashley Robinson, Kaylee Marsh, Ryan and Wyatt Zahornasky; three great grandchildren: Skyler, Aiden and Myah. No service is planned at this time, but all of his friends at Dunkin Donuts and Publix will miss his dry British sense of humor.
