Bea Lu Lykins

In lieu of flowers Bea had requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org/donate Bea’s Life Story Bellevue, Nebraska and the Air Force Seiler family would never be the same after October 28, 1950 as Bea Lu entered the World. A genuine “Tom Boy” from the get go, she would compete with her older brothers, Jim and Bill in all activities including baseball, football, fishing and golf. And the girl was good!!! In high school in Okinawa, she amped up her game and became a champion swim team diver and an equestrian. After high school she moved to Germany, and continued her athletic career in softball with the Wiesbaden All Stars. Then next twenty years were spent raising her son, Chris, with her husband Mike Church. They landed in Las Vegas in 1980 and that town has never been the same! Being a wife and mother was a loving process for her, but she needed even more action (she was after all, in Las Vegas). She became employed with the Nevada Federal Credit Union where she spent over three decades in various positions. Her supervisors, co-workers and customers had a lot to say about her performance (much of it was good). While she received many honors and awards over the years, she counted her co-workers among her closest of friends. In 1982 the Las Vegas Sun ran an article, “Da Up Is a Goil.” The article goes on to state, “Bea Church is a rare breed. A former softball player who began umpiring as a challenge, she now finds herself in the position of being the only female fast-pitch softball umpire in Nevada.” She eventually rose to vice-president of Nevada’s Amateur Softball Association Chapter. The He came into the picture…. Jim Lykins, another NASA umpire, and Bea were married in 1989 and spent the next twenty-one years working together, traveling and basically getting into all kinds of mischief. Her life was rocked in 2010 when Jimmy passed away unexpectedly. One of her great hopes for the future during her terminal bout with cancer was the assurance that she would be reunited with him in heaven. Bea Lykins, 65, of Las Vegas, passed away October 23, 2016. She worked at the Nevada Federal Credit Union for over three decades and was also a pioneer female umpire for the Nevada Amateur Softball Association. She is survived by sons Chris Church and Tommy (Mai) Lykins; grand-children Hunter and Dakota; brothers Bill (Karen) Seiler and Jim (Laura) Seiler; and nieces Garen Schaefer and Julie Seiler. Services will be held at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd, Boulder City, Nevada at 10:40am, Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Services will be handled by Kraft Sussman Cremation and Funeral Services.
