Met Paul a few times in our home town of Dunmore , PA, he was a great man, from a Dunmore Family. We have lost another member of the greatest generation. God Bless his soul and the entire Naro Family.

As a freshly minted graduate, I remember vividly showing up for in-person day-long interview at the CRD campus in Pennington on a frigid January morning in 1965.  Paul, who was then an Assistant Manager, was one of the first people to greet me when I was disembarked in front of the Administration Building. I still remember his courteous , calming conversation that day which provided just the emollient I needed to sail through the eventful day. That seminal interview lasted for a lifer career with Mobil and gave me the honor and privilege to come to know an exceptional succession of colleagues and subsequent life-long friends.
I had known and had always had friendly relationship with Paul through my stay with CRD, ending in 1973..
I will remember Paul fondly through my remaining days. May Paul rest in peace and his family know he had many friends in Mobil.

I am very sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. I worked with Paul for many years at Mobil prior to the closure of the Pennington site. Paul retired from there and Maureen Feuston and I had a great time planning the party and the ROAST of Paul. It is certainly a wonderful memory of our time working together. Dr. Paul Anthony Naro

Dr. Paul Anthony Naro, age 89, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving and heartbroken family on February 21, 2024. His death was unexpected and precipitated by an accidental fall.

Born in Scranton, PA on Aug 17, 1934, Paul was the son of the late Vincenzo Francis and Marjorie Koempel Naro (née Hathorn). While growing up, Paul was very active in the Boy Scouts and became the very first Eagle Scout of his troop at St. Anthony’s Church in Dunmore, PA. Paul graduated from Dunmore High School in May of 1952. He was the salutatorian, class speaker, and president of his graduating class. For his outstanding achievements in high school, Paul was awarded a Senatorial Scholarship to attend Temple University, graduating with a BS in chemistry in 1956. While at Temple, he was a member of various honor societies and was honored by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Chemical Society for outstanding scholarship in undergraduate studies. He was also a member of the Army ROTC while at Temple and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Chemical Corps of the US Army Reserve upon graduation. He was granted a deferment from his military commitment to pursue a PhD in organic chemistry at Penn State University, made possible by earning a lucrative fellowship from the American Petroleum Institute. Upon earning his PhD in 1959, Dr. Paul Naro was hired by Mobil Oil Corporation as a research chemist in Mobil’s Central Research Division in Paulsboro, NJ. In early 1960, he was called up to serve his military commitment; he served six months at Fort McClellan, AL as an officer and instructor in the Army Chemical Corps. He was discharged as a 1st lieutenant in late 1960 and returned to his career at Mobil in Paulsboro, NJ. After two promotions, Paul was transferred to Mobil’s Pennington Research Center in 1963 and bought a house in Ewing, NJ where he lived for 55 years. While doing research at Mobil, Paul was extensively published in the field of hydrocarbon chemistry and he is named as an inventor on an impressive list of patents, leaving a lasting legacy in the refining, drilling, and chemical processes at Mobil Oil. After spending nine years as a research scientist, Paul moved into management. In his last decade at Mobil, he was a director of the toxicology laboratory, executing and supervising studies on the effects of Mobil’s products on humans, animals, and the environment. All told, Paul served 35 years with Mobil (now ExxonMobil) and retired in 1994 at the age of 59.

In 1955, Paul met Joan Mearse while in the hospital for minor surgery; she was his nurse. Joan and Paul married on August 17, 1957, Paul’s 23rd Birthday. Their first son, Mark, was born while he attended Penn State, and their second son, Chris, was born after returning to NJ from his military service. After retiring, Paul focused on a lifelong passion for investing. His studiousness, dedication, and generosity left a lasting legacy to his family for generations to come. Paul also loved to travel. He loved going to New Hampshire and Hilton Head, SC with his family. After the kids were out of the nest, he and Joan traveled the world on numerous excursions by ship, airplane, and bus tour. He loved to visit his two sons’ families frequently, and meals with his grandchildren and great grandchildren were a highlight for him. He was especially proud of the professional and personal accomplishments of his sons and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his three beloved brothers and their spouses, Rev. Fr. Carl, Vince (Romaine), and George (Lorraine); a sister-in-law, Joyce Mearse (née Coleman); a niece, Debbie Uthus, and a nephew, Scott. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joan Arminta Naro (née Mearse); his two sons, Mark and Chris, and two daughters-in-law, Fran Naro and Debbie Naro; five grandchildren, Dru Pattan (Bryan), Nick (Katie), Kurt (AnnaLise), AJ, and Sasha; his beloved four great grandchildren, Charlie, Logan, Lizzy, and Martin; eleven nieces and nephews and their families; and his brother-in-law, Chuck Mearse. Paul dedicated the last five years of his life to caring for his wife Joan, who suffers from advanced dementia. He moved to a senior living community outside of Denver to be close to family and to better care for Joan, with his mission to provide a loving, happy, and vibrant quality of life for Joan as she battles her illness. Anybody who witnessed his devotion to Joan’s care knew that he was more than successful in this final life’s calling. His surviving family members are privileged to complete his mission of caring for Joan.

Paul requested that his body be donated to science. He also requested no funeral or grave and his remains be cremated. We have honored those requests. A celebration of life will be held at some time in the future. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850 (give.birds.cornell.edu). Paul developed the most extensive in-suite garden in the senior living community where he lived and avidly helped with the outside landscaping, so he would love if you planted a tree or some flowers while thinking of him. Alternatively, raise a glass of Gentleman Jack in his honor; he would appreciate that very much.

Ms. Harriette was such a beautiful soul and an encourager.  She always lifted our spirits and brought a smile to our faces whenever we saw her.  Welcome home to Glory Ms. Harriette,  we will see you again one day.

There will never be any equal to her in your lives. We’re so glad you and everyone else in her life have that blessing to cherish for the rest of their lives. Now, when take that love and caring and spread it around to everyone else, you will be forever honoring her memory, and she will live on in you. Though we know she will be greatly missed, we are sure she won’t be forgotten. She will be cherished in many family conversations to come, and future generations will know Aunt Harriette through you. 🕯️ A lady whom I was honored to know. I met Ms. Harriett when she and Larry came into CB&T Bank many years ago.  A smiling face, who never met a stranger and was one to reach out to anyone in need.  She was so proud to take part in the raising of  "Will"  at the time he needed her.  She will be missed by many friends and family.  To Ms. Harriett an ANGEL in the sky!
