Benjamin "Benny" Valdez Jimenez

Benny Valdez Jimenez, 86, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on February 22, 2021. He was born to Benicio Jimenez and Clara Valdez Jimenez, on July 10, 1934 in Casa Grande, Arizona. He grew up in Florence, Arizona. He was a tri star athlete in baseball, basketball, and football for Florence High and graduated from there in 1953. His athletic success in high school eventually led to his induction into the Florence Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. He went on to study at the University of Arizona until his marriage to Theresa Jimenez on June 10, 1956. Ben worked as an electrician supervisor for 40 years at Magma Copper Mine in San Manuel and retired in 1996. He was a man with great faith and was committed to serve others through volunteerism including work with the homeless. He was very reliable and went above and beyond to help his family and his church community.He enjoyed watching the Arizona Wildcats in any sport. He enjoyed staying active in current events and was genuinely interested in other people’s stories. His love for his family is evident. Together Ben and Theresa raised 4 children: Olivia, Benjamin(Paula), David (Becky), Jocelyn (Hans). He is grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a great grandfather to 7. He was a wonderful older brother to his 5 siblings and had solid relationships with his siblings and their families throughout his life. He spent his retired years attending his grandchildren's games, performances, graduations, birthday parties, and weddings. He was always present with his time, support and love. His warm smile and genuine friendship to all that he knows will be greatly missed. Ben is survived by his loving wife Theresa, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Benicio and Clara as well as his brothers, Joe, Gilbert, and Robert. He joins them in heaven with many friends and loved ones. A mass for Ben will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic church on March 26th at 11:30 am at 601 E Ft Lowell Road in Tucson. Burial will follow at Holy Hope cemetery at 1pm.
