Benjamin ""Ben"" Earl Bumgarner
1941 - 2024
Benjamin Earl “Ben” Bumgarner 83, of Kingsport passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. He was born in Kingsport, TN to the late Walter and Mary Bumgarner. Ben was a 1959 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee. He served his country in the U.S. Army where he was promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel. Ben retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 30 years of service. He also served as a reserve deputy in Sullivan County for over 45 years. Ben was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a devoted member of The Outdoorsman Club of Kingsport. Ben was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Joan Bumgarner; son, Stuart Bumgarner; daughter, Beth Bumgarner; grandchildren, Levi, Corbin, Mason, Lauren, Carson, and Bryson; great-grandchildren, Lilah, Maverick, John, and Billy; along with a host of friends and extended family.
A military graveside service will be conducted on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Old Kingsport Cemetery with honors conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Outdoorsman Club at PO Box 3303 Kingsport, TN 37664.
