Bennett James Crow, 79, died unexpectedly on October 2, 2022, in Lexington, S.C. Taking care of his family was his top priority. A graduate of Jackson High School, he received his B.S. in Biological Sciences from The Ohio State University. He worked as a Planning & Engineering Manager at Bell South, now AT&T. Upon retirement, he worked as a handyman and could fix anything and often did so for friends and family. Ben loved traveling with buddies to the Great Lakes and Canada to fish for Walleye ─ “Just like eating candy!” ─ but was also happy to drop a line in a local pond or his beloved Lake Murray with his grandkids. He shared his passion for the outdoors with his family, who enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, or simply spending time with him in his yard or at the beach looking for critters. Ben earned Life Rank in Boy Scouts and lived his life as best he could according to the Boy Scout oath. A life-long learner and avid reader, Ben was a WWII authority and spent countless hours poring over related books and watching documentaries on its battles, leaders, weaponry, and impact on history. He traveled twice to France with WWII veterans to trace their steps and celebrate the D-Day and Battle of Normandy Anniversaries. A kid at heart, Ben loved all gadgets, tech equipment, and sportsman’s gear. He enjoyed decades of participation in the Friends & Funds Investment Club and his multiple poker and bridge groups. His friends and family will remember him for his love of dogs, patriotism, can-do attitude, and card-playing antics. The son of the late Lowell Crow and Ruth Collins Crow, he is survived by his wife, Carole Buehler Crow; two daughters, Michelle Crow-Dolby (Andrew) and Julie Crow Ruck (Peter) and grandchildren Emma Rose, Mitchell Bennett, Mia Chenevey, James-Peter, and Bennett Garrison. He is also survived by his brother Richard Crow (Mimi) of San Antonio, TX and Jerry Crow of Altus, OK. Also important to him were the Gambill family, the Marietta Crew, and his beloved dog, Annie. A Celebration of Life will be held at his home from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2022. In lieu of the plant a tree program below, the family requests that expression of sympathy take the form of In Memory Donations to the Carolina Wildlife Center, 803-772-3994, carolinawildlife.org, 5551 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. South Carolina Cremation Society is assisting the family. Family and friends may sign the online guest book by clicking on the “Tribute Wall” tab above.
