AUBURNDALE - Mr. Bennie Ray Hughes, age 69 of Auburndale passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 in Winter Haven due to pneumonia. Mr. Hughes was born in Dothan, Alabama to Travis & Ola Martin Hughes and had lived in this area for the past 60 years. Mr. Hughes was a retired Paver & Rolling Machine operator with APAC. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in Winter Haven. He was preceded in death by his son, Nickey Hughes; brothers, Howard and Willie Hughes and sister, Ola Clyde Garrett. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Shirley Hughes; a son, Ricky Hughes of Lakeland; 3 daughters, Karen Streat of Auburndale, Deborah (Phillip) Price of Auburndale and Daphene Hughes of Lakeland; 3 brothers, Herbert (Katie) Hughes, J. L. (Carleen) Hughes and Joe (Roslyn) Hughes all of Dothan; 3 sisters, Frances McCord of Lakeland, Ann (Wesley) Stewart of Winter Haven and Nell (Frank) Hughes of Auburndale; 9 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 AM at the Kersey Funeral Home, Auburndale with visitation Wednesday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
