February 1st, 2018
WARNER ROBINS, GA- Bernard Eugene Compher, 98, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, February 5, 2018 in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6:00-8:00PM at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with the family receiving friends one hour prior. The Reverend David Miller and Pastor Jeremy Pass will officiate. Bernie, as he was known by most, was a kind and gentle soul who provided a helping hand to anyone in his path. This born and raised Waynesboro, Pennsylvania boy mustered up the courage to join the Navy and proudly served his country during the height of World War II. He continued to sacrifice for his country working in Civil Service as a Materials Manager at RAFB. Bernie spent much of his time volunteering for various organizations. At tax time, he could be seen filing taxes for Seniors with the AARP. If you were ever a patient at the Houston Medical Center, Bernie probably rolled you out in a wheelchair as you were being discharged. He was a pillar of strength at the First Church of the Nazarene where he worshipped his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If you had the time, he would immerse you with war stories or give you a run for your money at the bowling alley on a Friday night. He was a member of the local VFW #6605 and the Fleet Reserve Association. Nothing gave him more pleasure in life, however, than his family. One day, while volunteering at the hospital, another volunteer named Donna caught his attention and he married her. He adored and loved ALL of his children, grandchildren, and great grands, helping them in anyway possible. He loved life because he gave of himself so generously. Happiness could be felt in every tune that he would hum, no matter what he was doing. Bernie is preceded in death by his first wife Anna M. Compher, sons John and Frank Compher, and grandson Matthew Michael Dingas. His memory will forever be cherished by his adoring wife of 22 years, Donna S. Compher; daughters, Nancy (Ron) Stine of Pennsylvania, Susan ( Mike) Dingas of Warner Robins; Rebecca (Jerry ) Warren of Warner Robins, Debra (Jeff) Anderson of Kathleen; sons, Ronald Compher of New Mexico, and David (Karen) Abbott of Arkansas; 18 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund at 300 Lois Dr. Warner Robins, Georgia 31093.
