Bernice "Loomer" Westerberg

December 30th, 2012

Bernice Elisa Loomer Westerberg, 96, passed away December 30, 2012 at Trinity-Holly in Nampa, Idaho. Bernice was born October 14, 1916 at Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was the youngest of five children of Will and Clara Loomer. She was raised on a farm near Fergus Falls. As her brothers were older, she was her dad’s right- hand- man. She graduated from high school at age 16 and trained for one year at the State Teachers Training School. She taught school for two years in a one-room school house, often in 30 below weather. She was married to Paul Westerberg in 1938 and worked side by side farming with him until 1958 when they purchased the Coast- To- Coast Store in Caldwell on Main Street. Many weekends, when the doors were locked at the store, she and Paul were off to fish awhile. They spent many weekends at CJ Strike Dam with Paul fishing and mom canning fish inside the camper. They loved square dancing and loved life and friends. Her children, David, Barbara and LuAnn were born in Minnesota. After retiring from the business world of hardware, she worked at Idaho First National Bank for ten years, seeing many friends daily at the drive-in teller window. She loved the close bond with her church. For many years, she did their “banking” every Monday morning. In her retirement, she traveled to many places in the world to see LuAnn and her family. She had a large circle of friends, bowling, playing pool, playing cards and bingo. Until one week ago, she rose early every morning to say her prayers and do the jumble puzzle in the Idaho Press-Tribune. Bernice is survived by her children, David (Bonnie) of Vale, OR., Barbara (Ed) Frisbie of Melba, LuAnn Lyon and Bill of Givens Hot Springs; grandchildren, Steven (Dorothea ) Westerberg of Boise, Tim (Teri) Westerberg of Boise, Theresa (Casey) Meiwald of Vale, OR, Mark Frisbie of Melba, Katie Frisbie Stimpson of Melba, Paul (Amy) Lyon of Houston, TX, Mathew (Christina) Lyon of Las Vegas, NV; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, her loving husband Paul and a granddaughter, Jill Frisbie. Bernices’ family would like to thank the United Methodist Church of Caldwell and Pastors Kathy Rains and Leo Berry for praying and caring. Many thanks to dear friends Carol and Jim Klevenberg for their countless hours of caring, sharing, pizza and bingo. And sincere thanks to the entire staff at Trinity Care and Rehab of Holly and Journey’s Hospice. Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at the Caldwell United Methodist Church. Memorials in her memory are suggested to her church and directed to the Ann Van Slyke fund at the church. Condolences to the family made be made at www.flahiffffuneralchapel.com Service Information

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Your mother and father were a special part of our lives. We will always remember renting the house next to them. They were the best landlords anyone could wish to have. Your mother would surprise us with a meal when we would get home from work. Bill & Juanita Chrz

Dear Dave, Barb and LuAnn! Condolences to all of you and your families with Bernice's passing. Bernice was a wonderful person and I will say that I was very sad when you all moved from Orwell Township by Fergus Falls, MN, to Caldwell, ID! Bernice, Dad and Alvina were many years on the school board for Dist. 222. You had the first TV in the area, we used to come to your house to watch 'Dragnet' - Bernice was always cheerful and welcoming!! There are many good memories of the Westerberg's!!

My husband and I met Bernice at the Caldwell United Methodist Church. We attended the early service together. Bernice always had a smile and hello for us each Sunday. When she moved to Nampa we missed her greatly. I am sure that God rejoiced when Bernice joined him in heaven.
