Bessie Georgia Capsalis

Bessie Georgia (Antos) Capsalis May 26, 1924 – September 18, 2021 Bessie Georgia (Antos) Capsalis passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2021 under the kind care of the Hospice unit at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley Colorado. The daughter of Greek immigrants, she was born in Chicago Illinois. She moved to the Detroit area and settled in Pontiac Michigan. During World War II Bessie joined the war effort as a nurse earning her Bachelors of Nursing and she went on to practice nursing for over 35 years. She married Aleck Capsalis and they bought a home in Pontiac Michigan. She was ahead of her time being a working mom. They raised three children and put Bessie put her husband Aleck through his Graduate MBA program while maintaining an increasingly busy work and social schedule. She volunteered in her community, and she developed long lasting friendships throughout her time in Michigan. She relocated to Colorado after Al’s death in 1997 and moved in with her daughter and her family in Greeley. She loved her church (St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox of Loveland where she was founding member) her children and her grandchildren and the beagles that surrounded her in the family home. She loved to stay on top of the news and was happy to discuss any topic of the day and was always willing to offer her point of view. She was preceded in death by her husband Aleck Capsalis, her mom and dad and her brothers Pete, Steve and Jimmy Antos. She is survived by her sister Stella Antos, three children; Pam Capsalis Breen of Greeley, Colorado, Bill (Carole) Capsalis of Boulder Colorado and Mike (Mara) Capsalis of Bristol New Hampshire. In addition, she has 4 grand children, Alex and Mary Breen of Greeley Colorado, Cole Capsalis of Wheatridge Colorado and Georgia Cate Capsalis of Berkeley California. There will be a small family only graveside service in Michigan due to CoVid restrictions. At a later date the family will organize a celebration of life.
