Betty J. Berman
June 5th, 1924 - June 7th, 2014
On June 7, 2014, Betty Jean Berman passed away peacefully at the Fountains Assisted Living in Melbourne, FL from natural causes. She was happy and surrounded by many who loved and cared for her. Betty was born in Central City, Nebraska on June 5, 1924 and had resided with her husband, Seymour Berman, at 207 Rose Drive in Cocoa Beach since 1966. They would have been married for seventy years this December 2014. Betty and Seymour were active in the Brevard community, owning American BB Realty in Cocoa Beach, serving on the Development Council for Circles of Care, the Brevard Veterans Memorial and many other organizations. They loved to dance and were actively involved at the Patrick Air Force Base Officer's Club. Seymour, who died four years ago, was a retired Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force who served in World War II as a navigator, flying many dangerous missions in Europe, as well as helping with the Berlin Airlift. As an Air Force family, they lived in Wilmington, Delaware; Springfield Massachusetts, St. John's, Newfoundland, Sacramento, California and Moses Lake, Washington prior to retiring to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1961. They relocated to Cocoa Beach in 1966. Betty is survived by four children: Patricia Berman Ligon of Raleigh, North Carolina, Michael Jay Berman and Daniel James Berman of Agana, Guam and Thomas Harry Berman of Palm Bay, Florida. Betty and Seymour had six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition her sister, Donna Belle Johnson Swanda of Cozad, Nebraska and her brother Gary J. Johnson of Houston, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews, survive her. Betty was an avid duplicate bridge player achieving a Gold Life Master rank. She had a great sense of humor; often making others laugh and enjoy being with her. Betty's kindness, humor and love will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives. She will be interred with Seymour at Arlington National Cemetery in October 2014. Donations in her name can be made to the Veterans Memorial Center; Memorial Plaza, 400 South Sykes Creek Parkway, Merritt Island, Florida 32952 or to the Vitas Innovative Hospice, 4450 Eau Gallie, Ste. 250, Melbourne, Florida 32934.
