Obituary Betty Jane "B.J." Gilbert, 79, of Lexington, born March 24, 1931 in San Angelo, TX, died Monday, July 5, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Army Chaplain Leon B. Gilbert and Lyda Pearson Gilbert. Betty attended schools in Laredo, TX, Elizabethtown, Henderson and Lexington; was a 1948 graduate of Lafayette High School; and a 1951 graduate of Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing. During the Korean War she served in the Navy Nurses Corp. at Great Lakes until 1954. She received her CRN in anesthesia in 1971 and earned her B.S. at Incarnate Word College, San Antonio, TX. Two sisters, Joyce Mitchell, Lexington, and Esther Cox, Nicholasville, survive. In 1983, B.J. returned to Lexington to the family home on Goodrich Avenue. She was a faithful member of Anchor Baptist Church; and a loving aunt to 5 nieces, 6 nephews, 13 great nieces, and 7 great nephews. Her brother, Pearson Gilbert, Hilton Head, SC, preceded her in death. Funeral Information Visitation will be 5-8pm, Thursday, July 8 at Clark Legacy Center. A private graveside service will be Friday, July 9 at Lexington Cemetery, with Minister Bill Baels and Rev. Paul Sisk officiating. Casketbearers will be Bill Cox, Chad Cox, Oakley Cox, Robert Williams, Steven Poor, and Phillip Williams.
