Betty Jean Johnson

Betty Jean Johnson, 88, of Parma and Nampa, died Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at a local hospital.

Betty was born September 14, 1935, in Kansas – the last of seven children of Tom and Blanche Weeks. 

When Betty was six months old, the family moved to Nyssa, Oregon. Betty attended school in Nyssa, making life-long friendships. She graduated high school in 1954.

She met Plais Johnson in 1952, at the local movie theater where she worked. They married on August 20, 1955. Betty went to beauty college and began working for Owyhee Beauty Salon in 1957. She worked there for 35 years. Betty also worked for Super Thrift in Parma from 1983-1998, where she made many friends and enjoyed serving the people of Parma.

Plais and Betty had two children: Brad, born in 1956 and Denice, born in 1960. They moved to Parma in 1962. They bought a home in 1966, where they lived for 62 years. 

Besides being a wife, mother, and working outside the home, Betty was a pastor’s wife. She was called on to play the piano, teach Sunday school, and assist Plais where needed. She was a member of the Nyssa Missionary Baptist Church. Mom also delivered meals on wheels and helped with the Sunshine Cupboard for the Parma Senior Center.

Betty is survived by her son, Brad (Bobi) Johnson of Boise; daughter, Denice Schlapia of Caldwell; grandchildren: Renee (Kevin) McNeese of Boise, Rob Outen of Caldwell, Michele (Justin) Warren of Nolanville, Texas, and Brandon Johnson of Boise; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Glen Weeks of Parma; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Dobyns of Billings, Montana. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Plais, of 62 years; siblings: Johnny, Irene, Dwayne, Willie, and Lola; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 10th from 12:00-1:00 pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, 624 Cleveland Blvd. in Caldwell. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 pm, with a graveside service to follow at Parma Cemetery. Services are under the care of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. (208) 459-0833
