Mrs. Betty Dean Key, age 85 a resident of Auburndale passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Key was born January 14, 1936 in Athens, Alabama to Frank and Lillian (Wakefield) Johnson. She was an Auburndale resident since the 1960’s coming from Alabama. Betty was a Cafeteria Baker for Polk County Schools and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Auburndale. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers – Franklin Eugene & Coy Dale; sister – Lois Malone and grandson – Victor Fontana. Betty is survived by her loving family, husband of 68 years – Houston Key of Auburndale, Florida; 2 sons – Dwight Key of Lake Wales, Florida and Anthony Key of Auburndale, Florida; 3 daughters – Laveda (Dennis) Verrelli of Polk City, Florida, Rita Key of Auburndale, Florida and Tina Gossage of Englewood, Florida; brother – Bobby Johnson of Decatur, Alabama; sister – Janelle Loman of Athens, Alabama; 12 grandchildren – Jeff, Amy, Donny, Brett, Heather, Aaron, Emily, Rhonda, Bucky, Rebecca, Chris and Heather; 22 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, November 1st at Kersey Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park.
