Betty McConnell
April 3rd, 1924 - July 6th, 2018
Betty M. McConnell 1924-2018 Betty M. (Briggs) McConnell, 94, passed away Friday evening, July 6, 2018, at the Life Care Center in Greeley, CO. She was born April 13, 1924, to James Claude and Bessie (Jones) Briggs on the family farm near Holyoke, CO. She attended school in Holyoke, graduating from Phillips County High School in 1942. Betty married Everett L. McConnell on June 3, 1945, at the Hoyoke Methodist Church. To this union two children were born: Virginia M. and Lee W. Betty and Everett lived most of their married life in Haxtun, CO, until retirement took them to Mesa, AZ. Everett passed away in Phoenix, AZ on August 28, 2007. While living in Haxtun, Betty was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and Colorado Columbine Girls State, She was a member of the Haxtun Methodist Church and Haxtun Women's Club, and she worked at the Housing Authority for several years. Surviving Betty are her daughter, Virginia Lagergren and her children: Dawn (Leon) Berry, their five children, son-in-law, and granddaughter; daughter Denise (Steven) Balicki and their two sons; and son Eric (Katie) Lagergren and their five children all of La Junta, CO. Betty's son: Lee McConnell of Windsor; her daughterin-law, Melva Scarrow of Greeley, and their children: Michael (Martina) McConnell and their son; daughter, Leesa (Ted) Beckman and their four children; son Casey (Jayme) McConnell and their three children, all of Greeley; and daughter Kellee (Aaron) Anderson and their daughter of Aspen, CO. Also surviving are Betty's brother, James (Beverly) Briggs of Apache Junction, AZ; her sister Maxine (Keith) Stegall of Leadville, CO; sister-in-law GayeBeth Briggs of Copeland, KS; brother-in-law Harold (Dorothy) McConnell, Haxtun, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; brothers, Willard Briggs and Robert Briggs; sister -in-law and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bud Koberstein. Also son-in-law Donald Lagergren and great-great granddaughter Tiner Grace. Betty McConnell will be buried at the Ft Logan National Cemetery, Denver, beside her husband on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 12:00 noon (staging area A).
