Betty Nelson
January 14th, 1943 - August 17th, 2024
Betty Nelson, 81, went to be with her Lord on August 17, 2024, from the effects of Alzheimer's. She was born January 14, 1943, in Douglas, AZ to Herb and Mildred Estes. She met the love of her life, Wayne Nelson, in Duncan, AZ where they married on May 8, 1964. They had two daughters, Cheryl McDaniel (Wes) of Gilbert, AZ, and Wynell Haynes (Sean) of Tucson, AZ.
Over the years Betty worked in retail, as a receptionist, secretary, and a high school administrative assistant. The common thread throughout was the desire to help others. Most of her positions revolved around young people. She often became a “second mother,” mentoring and encouraging the kids that came in her path.
Encouraging and mentoring were also true wherever she attended church. She loved teaching children about Jesus and she was not afraid to speak the truth in love to those who needed a friend. She sang in the choir and taught many women's Bible studies. She was truly a good and faithful servant.
Betty also showed her love for others through the many crafts, wall hangings, and quilts she handmade and gave away. It brought her much joy.
She was an amazing wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved unconditionally and selflessly. Even as Alzheimer's robbed her of her memories and ability to care for herself and others, she remained sweet and thankful, smiling and lifting her eyebrows to family, caretakers, and visitors.
She is survived by her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, grandkids: Krista, Brian, Adam, Joshua, her sister Bonnie Barlow, plus many other extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ellen Billingsley.
She will be greatly missed, but we know for certain that she is now whole and healed in the hands of our Lord, and for this, we are so thankful.
