Betty Darlene Clapsaddle was born in Mitchell, South Dakota to her parents Clarence and Ida (Plum) Clapsaddle on November 15, 1924. She moved to Twin Falls, Idaho as a small child and went to school through the 5th grade there. She met her husband, Orrin Owens at age eight when they were neighbors in Twin Falls. Betty and Orrin were married on June 22, 1940 in Twin Falls and then immediately moved to a farm in Filer, Idaho, where Orrin farmed using a horse and plow. Their daughter Betty Jean was born in 1941 and shortly thereafter the United States entered World War II. Orrin enlisted in the Navy and Betty moved with her small family to Southern California. While there, in 1944 their son Rocky was born. After the War, they returned to Idaho and then in 1950 moved to Lane County, Oregon. Betty worked in both food service and retail for Tiffany Drug Stores during the 1950’s and 60’s. However, her primary passion and occupation was always that of homemaker. She had the gift of hospitality and always made anyone who came to her home feel like family and family feel like the most special people on earth, which to her, they were. Betty loved to be outdoors and spent her life hunting, camping, and raising gardens with her husband Orrin. They were married 55 years. Betty also loved animals: No-Nose, Smokey, and Mr. Rags were some of her most beloved pets. She was involved in the Cascadian Bowmen for many years and attended weekly dinners with life-long friends from this group through the 2000’s. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Orrin, daughter-in-law Cherie Owens, and grandson Ricky Owens.
