Beverley Mae (Thomas) Susic, age 92, passed away March 29, 2017 in Olympia, Washington. She was born August 18, 1924 to William Charles and Marguerite (Sharp) Thomas in Colfax, Iowa. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1942, and earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Nursing and Sociology from the University of Iowa. She married Ivan R. Susic in 1950 in Colfax, Iowa, the love of her life for 34 years. Beverley was devoted to the Blessed Mother, and was proud to be from Colfax, Iowa. Beverley was an avid reader and loved Bible study. She always carried a rosary in her hand, and made sure she said it every single day at 3:00 p.m. She loved Mother Teresa, St. Anthony of Padua, and Padre Pio. She belonged to St. Richard and St Clarence Catholic churches in North Olmsted, Ohio, and St. Michael Catholic Church in Olympia. Beverley was one of the most kind, gentle, compassionate, genuine and ethical people to have graced this Earth. She was a very loving mother to four daughters, Cate, Carla, Joanie and Mary, and never failed to treat her grandchildren as her own. She always made time to talk with people from all walks of life. She was always accepting of others, and never showed judgment towards anyone. She always listened with unconditional love and compassion, no matter what the circumstance. People would never leave her presence without feeling better about themselves. She enjoyed helping others “behind the scenes,” and delighted in caring for all of her many loved ones. Beverley was a real lady. She loved life, loved to laugh, and could be silly, which endeared her to children whom she loved. She was highly intelligent, and an excellent teacher. She also loved to dance, especially to Big Band music; loved working her crossword puzzles; reading her morning newspaper; eating Kentucky Fried Chicken; and cheering on her Seattle Mariners. Beverley ate a big piece of birthday cake every day since February 14, 2007 to celebrate her life. Beverley is survived by her daughters, Mary Lawrence, Catherine Susic, Joanie Tompkins, and Carla Velasco; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan (1984); son, John (died at three hours old); parents; and siblings, Robert Henry Thomas, and Betty Jean Thomas. Beverley’s gentle blue eyes, soft face, loving heart, and her simple presence will be greatly missed forever… and ever…and ever on this Earth… Please leave memories of Beverley or condolences for her family in the Guestbook below.
