Bill C.L. Shupe
April 23rd, 1924 - March 9th, 2013
Bill C.L. Shupe, 88, of Greeley, CO passed away March 9, 2013 at Fairacres Manor in Greeley. He was born April 23, 1924 in Macomb, IL to Clyde George and Edith (Randolph) Shupe. On November 9, 1942 Bill married Elnora Boston. They were married 56 years before her passing August 22, 1998. Bill entered the US Army on March 27, 1943, was wounded March 27, 1945 and discharged March 27, 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart during WWII. He owned and operated Bill Shupe Commodities for 20 years and drove trucks for almost his entire life. Bill was a hard worker and always provided for his family. He loved cars and would buy them, fix them and then resell them. He loved to travel and see new sights. He loved his grandkids and would support them in their activities and take them on trips with him and Elnora. He had an endearing quality and touched many people with his smile. He was a devoted father, grandfather and brother. He had a strong faith in God and was a humble man. If you listened and watched you could learn so much from Bill, not only everyday things, but life lessons and his passion for life. He never knew a stranger, never looked down on someone because of their disability, everyone was his friend. He had a sense of humor and would play practical jokes with a twinkle in his eye. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. Bill loved animals and was known to bring one home or was taking care of the strays that showed up at Shupe Bros., Shupe and Yost and Ed Neeley’s. The animals always seemed to find Bill. The last few years were different for Bill, but he lived each day the best way he knew how. Bill’s life was made complete by his brother Harvey, who every morning would take Bill to breakfast at McDonalds on 8th Avenue, to Tri-State Commodities to count trucks, check tires and get a donut. Next was a visit with their sister, Marguerite, and then off to coffee with all the guys at The Kitchen. Routine was so important to Bill and he had a great one. When anything was needed Bill’s brothers and sisters were there for him. Bill had a few sayings he used everyday…..”Bill’s here” when he entered a room, or "Oh, Dear Lord give me a good day”, and "You’re killing me”. The "you’re killing me” was used to his advantage when he didn’t want to do something. It was his way of not having to do it. During the last two years Bill had two angels that were sent to him. Those two were Joshua Terriere and Marisa Crespin. They took Bill into their family and cared for him like he was their grandpa. No price can be put on the dedication and love they gave Bill. They took him everywhere with them; shopping, long walks in the park, out to dinner, but the thing Bill would talk about most was the rides in the sports car. Josh and Bill were quite the two in that sports car. At 88, Bill was having the time of his life riding around town. Bill was blessed to have them. Bill loved his "buddy” and his "pretty girl”. Bill is survived by three children, Bill (Heide) Shupe Jr., Connie (Richard) Hein, and Cathy Ross; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sisters Marguerite Ruyle and Marge (Howard) Yost; brothers, John (Sandra) Shupe, Jack (Ruby) Shupe, and Harvey (Marge) Shupe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora; parents; brothers, Glen and Gerald; son-in-law, David Ross; and brother-in-law, Orman Ruyle. When heavens gates opened on Saturday morning "Bill’s here” could be heard. Bill is at home and at peace. Visitation Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Adamson Chapel, graveside side service with Military Honors 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens followed by memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Congregational Church, 1525 43rd Avenue, Greeley.
