Slaughter, Billie Bob ("B.B."), D.O., born November 13, 1928 and passed into the loving hands of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 23, 2017 at his home in Sun City Center (FL) surrounded by his loving family. He was under the care of LifePath Hospice. Pre-deceased by his parents Lloyd and Addie Slaughter (La Plata, MO), brothers E.L. Slaughter, D.O., Henry L. Slaughter, and daughter Sandra Kay Matthews. Dr. Slaughter is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Carol; children Mark Slaughter (Debi), Amy Lewis (James), and Gary Springer; grandchildren Emily Roberts Squires (Kenny), Tyson Roberts (Katie), Sarah Slaughter, Brittany Chesnutt (A.J.), Thompson Chesnutt, Brian Springer and Charlie Springer, four great-grandchildren, and his faithful canine companion Lucy. Dr. Slaughter received his Under Graduate Degree from Northeast Missouri State College (Kirksville, MO, now Truman State University), and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (now A.T. Still University). He interned at Muskegon (MI) Osteopathic Hospital, and began his practice in Dade City, Florida in 1952. In 1954, he opened his own practice in St. Petersburg, Florida. He retired from active practice in 1998. Dr. Slaughter was the founder and chairman of Metropolitan General Hospital (Pinellas Park). Upon his retirement from active practice, he served as Director of Medical Education at the hospital. He was also the local director of Parkside Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program. B.B. was an active member and past President of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association, and a member of the American Osteopathic Association, where he served as a Member of the AOA House of Delegates in Washington, DC from 1961-63. Dr. Slaughter was named FOMA Osteopathic Physician of the Year in 1984. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine over a nine-year period, and oversaw the addition of a new campus in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Slaughter was Team Physician for Northeast High School sports, and was inducted into the NEHI Hall of Fame. He was a 50-year member of Kiwanis. He truly exemplified his belief that if you love what you do, it is never really work. Whether seeing patients, planting and harvesting his garden, playing golf, fishing, bowling, restoring antiques or building furniture, summering in Wolf Laurel, or spending time with his family, B.B. did it all with great love and affection. The family wishes to thank the caregivers of LifePath Hospice for their care and comfort of Dr. Slaughter in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Dr. Slaughter's memory to St. John the Divine Episcopal Church (Sun City Center), LifePath Hospice (Sun City Center), the Church of the Holy Spirit (Mars Hill, NC) or Hospice of Madison County (Mars Hill, NC). A celebration of Dr. Slaughter's life will be held on Sunday, October 1st, from 1 pm to 4 pm, at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home- 2201 Dr. MLK Jr. St. N., St. Petersburg, FL 33704
