Billy Joe Lane
November 1st, 1934 - September 21st, 2023
Billy Joe Lane, 88 of Sulphur Springs, TN who was born in Church Hill TN, to the late Carl Henderson Lane & Ruth Kinkead Lane November 1, 1934, peacefully passed from this world at NHC to the arms of Jesus Christ whom he trusted as his savior. Bill was a long-time resident of Sulphur Springs after moving from Church Hill to Gray in 1973 and in 1975 he purchased a farm in Sulphur Springs. Bill was an entrepreneur in many small businesses, in the 1950s he had a grocery and gas store. In the 1960s he ran a lawnmower shop and ran heavy equipment and then he began to work for Sears & Roebuck Co. as an on the road appliance technician, later managing the Kingsport Service department. In the mid 1970s he bought the Sulphur Springs Bay Station that he and his wife Patsy ran, and in the 1990s he purchased a Quick Mart with a deli in Church Hill. He retired from Sears after 30+ years of service and continued to operate the market until it was sold. Bill was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church from 1973 to present date. In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Patsy Ruth Trent Lane; his daughter Donna Sue Lane Laws; sister, Mary Ruth Larkin; brothers, Paul “Pie”, Phillip “Gene”, James “Jack”, and Howard “Jug”. Survivors Include his son, Billy Wayne Lane and wife Patricia; daughter, Gina Hammonds and husband Chuck; son-in law, Kevin Laws; sister, Patricia Lane Russell; sister-in-law, Wilma “Teal” Mullins Lane ; grandchildren, Pamela Lane Jones (Ricky), Priscilla Lane Roberts (Richie), Summer Laws Johnson (Daniel), Savannah Laws Mottern (Ben); great-grandchildren, Oliver Jones, Colt Pruett, and Asher Roberts; along with many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Parker Street officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:30pm at Sulphur Springs Cemetery with Scott Russell, Mike Russell, Mark Lane, Richie Roberts, Ricky Jones, and Ben Mottern serving as pallbearers. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of NHC in Johnson City for their loving care. Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport is serving the Lane family.
