Billy Colin Powers Sr., age 80, passed away on January 19, 2024 at the Church Hill Post- Acute and Rehabilitation Center, Church Hill TN after a brief illness. Bill was the son of the late Ogle “Tom” and Gertrude Powers of Pulaski, VA., and was born June 19, 1943 in Kingsport, TN. Bill was a carpenter by trade and was well known for homes he built in the Kingsport and the Church Hill areas. He was a former member of the National Association of Home Builders and the Home Builders Association of Kingsport. He also was a current member of the Church Hill City Planning Commission. He and his wife, Glenda attended First Baptist Church in Church Hill. Bill was an avid Nascar fan and had attended many races. He often boasted on how he “climbed the fence” to attend the very first Nascar race at Bristol International Raceway. Bill also enjoyed collecting vehicles and loved attending car shows throughout the local area to show them off. He loved a good western and would watch them over and over, but eating a good meal with family or friends brought him as much joy as anything. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ogle “Tom” and Gertrude Powers, brothers Bob Powers, Tom Powers and wife Joyce, sisters Bonnie Linkous and husband David, and Betty Honaker and husband Lawrence. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Glenda (Taylor) Powers; son Billy C. Powers Jr. and wife, Leesa; brother Randy Powers and wife, Sherry; two grandchildren, Michelle (Shelley) Crisp and husband, Mark, and Brandon Tyler Powers and girlfriend, Ashley Heaps; three great-grandchildren, Lucas Crisp, Amelia and Asher Powers, along with special niece, Amy, and great-nieces, Lydia and Emma Blizzard. Visitation will be held at Carter Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill, TN on Thursday, January 25th from 4 – 6 pm with funeral to follow. Graveside services will be Friday, January 26th at Church Hill Memory Gardens in Church Hill, TN at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Bleeding Disorders Association of South Carolina, 25 Woods Lake Rd. #300, Greenville, SC 29607. The family wishes to thank the staff of Church Hill Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center, with special thanks to Angel, for their care of Bill and their kindness to the family.
