Billy Wayne Salyers

Kingsport-TN Bill W. Salyers, age 71, of Kingsport, TN, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 20th at Holston Valley Hospital, unexpectedly and with his family by his side. Born in Wise, VA, in 1946 he spent most of his life in Pound, VA. He was a member of Flat Gap Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. In 2002, he moved to Kingsport. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, daddy, papaw and great-papaw. He was a man of God with a good soul and a big heart. He dearly loved his family and church family. He also had a love for fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Salyers; mother, Pearl Marie Salyers-Mullins; and step-mother, Jacqueline Salyers; brother, Jack Salyers; and step-brother, Michael Smith. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 52 years, Rita Sturgill Salyers; 2 daughters "Daddy's Girls", Angela Worley and husband, Leonard, and Lisa Hall and husband, Jeff; 3 grandchildren, Alison Hall Sturgill (Joshua), Jeffrey Brandon Hall (Katie) and Heather Marie Dean; also Re'le Sky Dean who was also like a granddaughter to him; great-grandson, Paxton Hall, who stole his papaw's heart from day one; sister, Janet Maggard; and step-brother, Gary Smith (Susan). Bill's wishes were to be cremated. Ecclesiates 3:20 "Ashes to ashes, dust to dust;" and II Corinthians 5:8 "Absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." A special Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Hobbie McCreary officiating.
