Blumenta Bagaslao
October 20th, 1921 - May 3rd, 2015
Blumenta Libarnes Bagaslao, 93, passed away on May 4, 2015 in Salinas, CA. Blumenta , fondly known as "Blooming", was born in Jabonga, Philippines to Calixto and Ines Libarnes on October 20, 1921. She started Catholic high school in Surigao and completed it at Agusan High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elemenatry Education from Baguio City Teachers College. She taught at various schools in Butuan City and was the Adult School principal before retiring in the Butuan Centeral Elementary School. Blooming was a soft-spoken and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She is known to give love unconditionally not only to family, but to strangers too. A firm believer in continuing education, Blooming encouraged her students to pursue graduate studies or earn doctorate degrees. She practiced what she preached by financially supporting a brother who became a lawyer, a vice governor and eventually, a judge. A multi-faceted person, Blooming also graduated with honors at the Butuan Business School for dressmaking. A generous person, she supported school athletics by producing uniforms. She practiced medical assisting, but also enjoyed gardening, dancing and singing. Blooming is survived by her daughter, Elena Tumacder, former son-in-law, Manuuel Quebec, four grandchildren, Jocelyn (John) Paluck, Elgene (Perla) Tumacder, Relaine Swisher, Donabelle Esposo, three great-grandchildren, Brixton Paluck, Elijah Tumacder and Derek Swisher. Also surviving are two sisters, Remedios Torrevillas and Julianita Egay, 7 nieces and 1 nephew. Blooming is preceded in death by her parents, Calixto and Ines, her husband, Dominador Bagaslao, son, Andres Libarnes, brothers, Silverio, Crisanto, Melchor and Armando, sisters, Liboria Moran and Hopelina Monteclaro. Visitation will be held on Saturady, May 9, 2015 1-5pm and also on Sunday, May 10, 2015 1-9pm with a Rosary vigil at 7pm, all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. Funeral Mass to take place on Monday, May 11, 2015 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 22 Stone St. Salinas, CA 93901. Burial to follow services at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery 18200 Damian Way Salinas, CA 93907.
