Bob Sexton

August 8th, 1942 - April 30th, 2024

Bob Sexton, resident of Gill, Colorado, came to the end of life’s journey very early Tuesday morning, April 30th, 2024, and immediately found himself resting in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Surrounded by friends and family, Bob peacefully drew his last breath and left his pain-ridden, earthly body and entered into eternal rest. Bob was 81 years old at the time of his passing. Bob was a baptized, born again Christian and looked forward with anticipation to the day he would see his Savior’s face. No doubt he has heard those longed for words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Bob was born to Paul and Rosella Sexton in Pottersville, Missouri, on August 8th, 1942. He was the youngest son of six children and had the dubious honor of being named by his older brother Ben, who was all of two years old. When asked what they should name the new little brother, Ben proudly said, “Billie Bob”. This may have been one of the youngest episodes of sibling rivalry ever. When Bob was 12 years old, the family moved to Colorado. He graduated in 1960 from Windsor High School. Following graduation, Bob went on to attend barber college and later owned his own business as a very skilled carpenter and tile man. He was a jack of all trades and successful at all he laid his hands to. Whether cutting hair, dealing in real estate or laying tile, he did it all with a spirit of excellence and integrity.

On July 1, 1978, Bob married the love of his life, Gladys Bowman. She was truly his pride and joy. His death left them 2 months short of their 46th wedding anniversary. Although Bob and Gladys never had biological children from this union, they continually opened their hearts and home to nieces, nephews, foster children, and even adults that needed the unconditional love and support of a Christian home. He was firmly cemented as a “bonus dad” to every one of the individuals who had the blessing of calling the Sexton household home over the years.

When Bob was about 6 years old, his older brother Frank bought a guitar with money he earned selling garden seeds. Frank, Ben and Bob would all learn to play on that guitar, and it sparked a love for music that followed Bob all of his life. What began as jam sessions at home and music parties with the family progressed to playing at church and regularly entertaining at the local nursing homes singing southern gospel hymns complete with four-part harmony. He was instrumental in passing this gift on to the next generation, always willing to give them an instrument, patiently picking with them in the younger years, and proudly going all over the country to cheer them on in their musical accomplishments as they grew up and took on the musical mantle as their own. This love of music is a heritage and legacy that reaches far across the generations and will be remembered and cherished as an integral part of who he was!

Bob is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Gladys Sexton, of Gill, CO; his daughter, Cynthia Hildenbrandt (Les), his granddaughter Emily Hildenbrandt, and his grandson Craig Hildenbrandt, all of Windsor, CO; his sister, Joyce Lemons of Aurora, CO; his sister-in-law, Sharlet Sexton, of Fort Collins, CO, his nephew, Anthony Autrey, of Pearland, TX, and other numerous nieces, nephews and bonus family members too numerous to name.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rosella Sexton, his daughter, Angela Sexton, his brothers, Frank and Ben Sexton, and his sisters, Ardith Cook Drake and Nina Schmer.
