Bobby Gerald Knight
October 9th, 1940 - June 20th, 2011
Born in Worth County, Georgia on October 9th, 1940, Bob passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on June 20th, 2011 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Sandi; Daughters Becky (Albert) of Florida, Sherri (Dave) of Colorado; Step-daughters Bobbi (Anthony) of Spanaway, Erika of Tacoma; Siblings Harrell, Rick, David and Mary; 8 grandchildren and 1 very special caregiver, Debbie. Bob was a consummate salesman his whole life and Kirby vacuum cleaners were in his blood. He won many awards and was named National Salesman of the Year and awarded a full-sized working 24k gold Kirby vacuum. In December 1979, he was in the Yorktown Restaurant in Steilacoom when a gunman came in and shot 6 people, 3 of whom died. Bob was shot at point blank range in the bridge of his nose with a .45 and lived to tell about it. In April of 1980, on his first night out after the shooting, he met the love of his life, Sandi, at a lounge called the Knight's Den. They were married on August 29th, 1981. He loved traveling and many trips were made to the south to visit family and friends. In later years, the destination of choice was Laughlin, Nevada, a beautiful and restful place that just happened to have slot machines. To fill his time when his health started deteriorating, he started going to Denny's Restaurant where he quickly became a fixture and made many friends sitting at his spot at the counter. Wanting a "piece of home" he planted a tree in the back yard so he could grow his own peaches. In its second year it produced about 4 or 5 peaches. When they were just about ready to pick, some critter climbed that little tree and took every last one of them. This year the tree is looking very hardy... we'll save one for you Bob. His puppy dogs were a big part of his life and he loved them all dearly. Sniffles, Rusty, Chubbers and Lady left us all too soon. As his health was failing, he talked about seeing and being with his "babies". Bob, you will be missed by many. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center (253)566-1008
