March 5th, 1933 - March 30th, 2024
Bonnie Gunn McLaughlinResident of Pleasanton, CAMarch 5, 1933 - March 30, 2024 Bonnie McLaughlin passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 30. She touched many lives during her long life, with her kindness, humor and sharp wit. She will be greatly missed. Bonnie Lou Gunn was born at home on Sunday, March 5, 1933 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born one month premature, she was tiny, frail and not expected to survive.Against all odds, she surprised everyone and thrived. Her father, Homer, left Nebraska seeking a job in California, during the war. When he found work as a bus driver, he sent for his family. When she was nine, Bonnie traveled by train from Nebraska to California with her mother, Mary Unita, her older brother Al and younger sister Barbara. They settled in Oakland and Bonnie graduated from Fremont High School in 1951. She married Kenneth Floyd in 1953 and had three children: Wendy, Roger and Sally. They divorced in 1963 and Bonnie raised the children on her own, with help from her mother and step-father, Roy Grimes. She worked as a teletype operator and secretary, until marrying Glenn McLaughlin, in 1977. She combined her three, with Glenn's four grown children: Gary, Steven, Mark and Valerie. Together, they welcomed many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie enjoyed many happy years with Glenn, until his sudden passing in March 1993. She relocated to Pleasanton in 1994 and went back to work as a crossing guard, for the next 10 + years. She loved her job and made many lasting friends and cherished memories. Bonnie is survived by her youngest brother Charles (Mac) Gunn of Modesto, as well as her oldest daughter, Wendy Clare of Pleasanton and her younger daughter, Sally Dull (David) of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Her son, Roger, preceded her in death in 2008. She is also survived by step-sons Gary (Sudi) and Steven McLaughlin and step-daughter Valerie Music (Michael), twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren! Known for never forgetting a birthday or special occasion, Bonnie delighted in sending out decorated and personalized cards, to her wide circle of family and friends. Her generous, loving spirit will live on, in the many people whose live's she touched over the years. Family and friends will gather at the Pleasanton Senior Center on Mother's Day, May 12, from 1 - 4 pm, to celebrate the life of legacy of Bonnie Gunn McLaughlin. Donations can be made in her honor, to St. Jude's Children's Hospital
