Brett Silva
September 17th, 1963 - January 22nd, 2017
Brett Narciso Silva, 53, died on January 22nd due to injuries sustained in a car accident on Hwy 32. Brett, a resident of Orland, was born on September 17, 1963 at Enloe Hospital to Alvy and Cheryl Silva. Brett attended Chico schools and graduated from Chico High School in 1981. He attended Butte College and Chico State University graduating with a Bachelor degree in 1986. Brett then obtained his teaching credential and soon after began his career at Pleasant Valley High School. He recently went back to school and obtained his Masters Degree in Education and graduated with distinction. In the summer of 1982 he met the love of his life Lori Albright. They were inseparable through school and were married 2 weeks after Lori graduated on June 12, 1987. This year they were to celebrate their 30th anniversary of marriage. Brett and Lori have 4 children, Matthew 26, Jordan 25, Isabella 16 and Ian 13. Brett's family and the community of Orland were important to him and over the last 25 years coached sports including Orland Little League and youth soccer. He also has been the Pack Master of Cub Scouts Pack 25 and Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 4 for the last 20 years. He had the opportunity to see many of these young men become Eagle Scouts under his leadership. Brett's other love was coaching soccer. He began coaching at the age of 16. He coached the Chico Pipeline, a team that traveled to Germany to play, and coached Chico Youth Soccer with his brothers Rick and Jody. Coaching soccer opened the door to his teaching career at Pleasant Valley High School where he began teaching in 1989. He was still teaching there at the time of his death. Brett was a Social Science teacher who earned the love and respect from his peers and colleagues in the Northern California educational community. He considered the school his extended family and was well loved by his students and coworkers. He was always involved in some way to improve the experience of Pleasant Valley High school for both students and teachers. Brett was a very successful PV boys soccer coach, winning multiple section titles and took over the PV girls soccer team in 2011. His Viking girls won the 2015 section title. He loved this PV girls team and was excited to be starting this soccer season. Brett also has coached the Academic Decathlon team in years past. The trophy awarded to the winner will now be named after him in his honor. Brett loved the Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Orland. Being a man of God, loving and honoring his large extended family were important to him. Brett is survived by his wife of 29 years Lori and their children Matthew, Jordan, Isabella and Ian, his parents Alvy and Cheryl, a stepmother Ann and Stepfather Rick, brothers and their wives, Rick and Mady, Jody and Joy, brother Tyler and sister and her husband Alvyna and Cory. Brett is also survived by 6 nieces, 3 nephews, 4 God children, five uncles, three aunts and 24 cousins. A Rosary for Brett is set for Friday February 10th at St. John the Baptist Church in Chico at 7pm. Rosary prayers will be said and followed by a time of remembrance of Brett from anyone wishing to speak. A Catholic funeral mass will be held Saturday February 11th at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Church. The Catholic mass is long and parents may want to consider age appropriate attendance by small children. At noon there will be a public luncheon celebration of life at Pleasant Valley High School in the gym. The family would like to thank the Orland and Chico Communities, Enloe Medical Center and Chico Unified School District for their love and support during this difficult time. A "go-fund-me" account has been set up on Facebook to help the family with immediate funeral needs and medical expenses. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.brusiefh.com
