Brian Charles Brown
May 9th, 1951 - January 23rd, 2021
Brian Charles Brown, a fun loving husband and father, highly-rated eBay seller, arguably excellent Blackjack and Scrabble player, and connoisseur of good IPAs, passed away on January 23, 2021, after a hard fought battle with leukemia. Brian was born May 9, 1951, in Grass Valley, California, where he spent his younger years roaming the streets of Grass Valley, with a baseball glove in hand. His family eventually moved to Yuba City, where he attended Gray Avenue Middle School and Yuba City High School. He went to college at UC Davis, where he made life-long friends, enjoyed playing loud music in the dorms, participated in IM sports as a member of the Bovines, and graduated with a B.S. in Biology. While in Davis, Brian realized he could support himself by selling old beer cans to collectors across the country. This was a good fit for a while as it allowed ample opportunity for outdoor activities, particularly camping, in search of old cans. It was also in Davis, where Brian met his future wife, Carolyn, at a roommate's Halloween party while donned in an odd assortment of garments and a wig. Love blossomed; they married and remained happily married for 38 years. Brian enjoyed being the father to two rambunctious boys, showing them the secrets of good frisbee-golf techniques, the fun of car horns, and the thrill of ambushing your opponent in a game of backyard laser tag. Brian is remembered for his love of simple pleasures in life - backyard BBQs with family and friends, mountain hikes, and a cold beer on a hot day. He loved music and dancing. He organized the Brown Family Band, was notorious for singing made-up songs around a camp fire, and for initiating Friday night dance alongs to "old" rock and roll songs. Following retirement, the happy couple enjoyed many trailer and camping trips along with cycling, hiking, and kayaking with friends while sampling craft beers here and there. Laguinitas and Sierra Nevada breweries will be devastated by the passing of Brian. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Brown of Yuba City; son, Garrett Brown; his brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Carol Brown; and his faithful dog Stella. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Brown; and his beloved son Evan Brown. A Celebration of Life will be held in the future when it is safe for family and friends to gather, have a beer and share a fun story.
