It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Carlson, beloved husband and Father, who exited the Stadium of Life October 1st, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. His last day, included a great win by his “dang Broncos,” and a cribbage game filled with suspense and fantastic cards. Brian was born in Ishpeming, MI in July 1944, to Myrtle and Carl Carlson, both from Sweden. Brian is survived by his devoted loving wife of 54 years, Sharon, his children Kim, Tim, and Jim, his favorite daughter-in-law Amy, his genius grandson Fisher, sister Bonnie, brother Bruce and sister-in-law Pat, as well as 3 generations of nieces and nephews. Brian graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1966, had already been drafted, and was promptly sent to basic training the next day. Brian returned from his tour in Vietnam in 1968, and was stationed in Colorado Springs where he met Sharon, the love of his life, while cruising Nevada Avenue. Mom and Dad married in May of 1969. Brian was 79 years old, and a quiet valiant warrior and most valuable player to the end. He lived life to the fullest, and was always willing to share his disarming smile or a helping hand. He was patient, kind, generous and had a great sense of humor. He was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout leader, and he once rode a Moped through a school gymnasium wearing a cape and mask, witnessed by over 75 Scouts!. He loved to camp, play games, and relax with his family in the mountains, where he used to sit in a chair and say, “I’m just sitting here waiting for a deer to walk by.” He has always been a dog lover, avid bowler and a stellar cribbage player. Sharon, Kim and Jim, along with countless others, were all privileged enough to be on a bowling team with him. Dad and Jim were lucky enough to witness each others’ 300 games! In 2014 Dad joined the American Cribbage Congress Chapter 307, and was dealt a 29 hand his very first night (he always loved to win!), and Dad fully enjoyed playing with friends at the Cribbage Club. Dad was proud of the work he did as a bulk mail technician for the USPS, and reluctantly retired after 35 years of service. He received many accolades from the USPS, including the George Shannon Award for Excellence. Brian’s family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the Colorado Springs Fire Department for assistance when he needed their strength. Services will be held on Thursday, 10/19/23 at 10:00 am, at the First United Methodist Church Chapel, 420 N Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs, followed by a reception in the Parlor. Brian will be interred at Pikes Peak National Cemetery at 2pm, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80925. Furthermore, a Celebration of Life will be held at Harmony Bowl on Sunday, 10/22/23, at 2pm. The family would love for you to wear your favorite Broncos gear.
