"Belchertown-Brian M. Lariviere, 62, passed away September 1, 2012 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Southbridge, MA on April 25, 1950, he was the son of Alfred and Gloria Lariviere. Brian grew up in Springfield before moving to Monson and graduating from Monson High School. He later lived in West Brookfield and Northampton before living in Belchertown. Brian was a Human Service Coordinator for the Department of Developmental Services and previously worked at Monson Developmental Center. He was an active volunteer for AIDS Care Hampshire County. He also spent many years volunteering at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and the Calvin Theatre. Brian was a very strong advocate for others, and was entirely committed to the people in his life, whether it was through work or friends and family. He was passionate about folk festivals, film, literature, music, and gardening and liked to spend time hiking and indulging in good food. He will be greatly missed by his mother Gloria of Cotuit, MA, his son Aaron of Los Angeles, CA, and his longtime companion Debra Benoit with whom he lived. He is also survived by his two siblings--his brother Mark and wife Colleen and their children of Lyndonville, VT and his sister Elaine Joubert and husband Russell and their children of Garner, NC--and Debbie's sons: Dennis Volz-Benoit and his husband Eric and their children Zach and Ty, and Brian Benoit and his fiancée Jennifer Oey. A visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 8th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. with a celebration of Brian's life to begin at 4:30 p.m. at Beers & Story Funeral Home in Belchertown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AIDS Care Hampshire County, P.O. Box 1299, Northampton, MA 01061-1299 and Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Ave. 2nd floor, NY, NY 10001. "
