Bruce D. Berry, 60, of Charlotte, died July 18, 2015, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. The son of the late Reginald and Louise Berry of Roanoke Rapids, NC, he is survived by his loving wife, Lynne Atkinson Berry; daughters, Tara McAlister (Stuart) and Amy Sumner (Vince); brother, Dwight Berry; grandchildren, Braeden and Kelsea McAlister, and Mabry and Ainsley Sumner; brother-in-law, Larry Atkinson (Ann); and many loving nieces and nephews. Bruce's brother, the Rev. Michael E. Berry died earlier this year in March. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Matthews United Methodist Church, 801 S. Trade Street, Matthews, NC, conducted by the Rev. Paul Craig. Following the service, friends and family are invited to Raintree Country Club, 8600 Raintree Lane, Charlotte, NC, for a remembrance celebration. A private memorial service will be held at Ocean Isle beach, NC, Bruce's heaven on earth, at a later date. Bruce was a gentleman in every sense of the word. His love of family and friends was evident to all. He never met a stranger. He loved sports, especially his "Heels." Bruce had a perfect 300 bowling ring, was an avid golfer, and a member of Raintree Country Club and Thistle Golf Club in Sunset Beach, NC. He loved his Saturday morning with "The Fearsome Foursome." Bruce was affectionately known as "the Big Guy" to his friends and "Big Pop" to his beloved children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the Friday night concerts, parades, eating haunts and the pure joy of Ocean Isle Beach. Bruce was past president of the Charlotte Regional Mortgage Lenders Association and Mortgage Broker of the year 1995-1996. He earned recognition as a member of the President's Circle for 2010-2011 for Fifth Third Bank and served on several committees for the Mortgage Bankers of the Carolinas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shallotte Presbyterian Church (Memo: Food Pantry), PO Box 3256, Shallotte, NC 28459 or to Claire's Army, PO Box 78571, Charlotte, NC 28271; clairesarmy.org. The Berry family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Levine Cancer Institute and the oncology and hematology nursing staff at CMC Main.
