Burton "Burt" Joyce

Burton “Burt” Montgomery Joyce, 80, of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, with his beloved wife, Rita, by his side. A celebration of life with a reception following will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 at Pasadena Community Church, 227 70th Street South, St. Petersburg, Florida. Burt was born on February 16, 1942, to Edwin “Monty” and Helen (Van Riper) Joyce in Evanston, Illinois. He graduated from Miami University (Ohio) with an accounting degree and served in the U.S. Army. Burt also worked in various finance and operational roles, including executive positions based in Europe, before becoming the President and Chief Executive Officer of Terra Industries, Inc. After retiring from Terra, he served as a member of the Board of Directors for various public companies, including as Chairman of the Board of Directors for IPSCO Inc, a member of the Norfolk Southern Corporation Board of Directors and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Terra. He married Rita Baldwin on March 8, 2002. He was a private pilot of many years and enjoyed boating, hiking, traveling, kayaking, golfing, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family and friends. In addition, Burt was a member of the Pasadena Community Church, served as a member of the Board of Trustees and led the sanctuary remodel. Burt is survived by his wife, Rita; a son, Matthew Joyce (Kathy Kretchmer); a daughter, Sarah Mann (Brian Mann); two bonus daughters, Kara Rowe, and Alisha Rowe (Michael Bonnevie); two grandsons, Benjamin Anderson and Nicholas Anderson; two bonus granddaughters, Adianna Bonnevie and Colwyn Bonnevie; one bonus grandson, Camden Bonnevie; two brothers, Calvin Joyce, and Donald Joyce (Diane Joyce) and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name of Burton Joyce to the Pasadena Community Church (pasadenacommunitychurch.org) or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org).
