Byrtie Whitmore, 83 died at her home in San Ramon, California on Thursday, October 21, 2010 attended and watched over by her loving husband David, her sister Mary and Pam her niece. Byrtie was born on March 21, 1927 in Port Arthur, Texas to Madice and Annie Mallet Trahan. Byrtie's free spirited nature took her from Texas to San Francisco in the late 1950's. Loving her freedom and independence she expanded her abilities by taking classes and becoming exceptional at key punch allowing her to work for several businesses including Standard Oil, Bank of America and Eng Skell. Byrtie found her career home with Callan and Associates where she made lasting friendships and formally retired in 1992. Byrtie's independent life took a wonderful turn when she met David Whitmore while living at the Navarre Guest House on Sutter St. in downtown San Francisco. Byrtie married the man of her dreams and best friend in November of 1966. Together they formed a bond that was unmistakable. Byrtie loved a party: in fact she was the party! Either at a small dinner, her birthday parties or her Easter brunch everyone felt welcome. Her many trips to Reno, Tahoe and Mexico were some of her greatest pleasures. Her friends and family describe her as extremely generous. Byrtie would never hesitate to give whatever she had to those she loved. Byrtie is survived by her husband, David Whitmore, sisters: Doris Reel (Burkesville, TX), Mary Curry (Simi Valley, CA), Norma Richardson (Groves, TX), brother: Harold Trahan (Jacksonville, TX). She was preceded in death by brother: Curtis Trahan (Port Arthur, TX, sister: Maybell Trahan (Port Arthur, TX), and twin sister: Betty Ball (Kirbyville, TX). Because her sister and niece are both affected by retinal diseases, Byrtie's wishes were that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to: Foundation Fighting Blindness Byrtie Whitmore Memorial Fund 11900 W. Olympic Blvd., Suite 560 Los Angeles, CA 90064 (310) 207-2089 www.fightingblindness.org Details for a memorial will follow.
